Trial set for FGCU students accused of hosting underage party

The two Florida Gulf Coast University students accused of hosting an underage drinking party the night an intoxicated classmate died in a car wreck are set to go on trial in early January.

The trial date of Jan. 8 was set Friday morning for Nicholas Herrig and Kevin Curtin, both 19, a week after both students faced related disciplinary hearings at the school, Curtin's attorney said. Herrig and Curtin are charged with one count each of violating the state's "open house party" statute, which makes it a misdemeanor offense to knowingly allow underage drinking in a home.
